“Many patients believe that they have tried everything. Yes, they have tried many therapies, but they have never been able to address the root cause.”

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a healing system that uses the spine as a way to access and heal the body. Many people have the misconception that chiropractic is only for back or neck pain when in reality it is for the entire nervous system. It helps the nervous system by removing blockages and interference so the body can return back to balance or homeostasis.

D.D. Palmer founded chiropractic over 100 years ago. He stated that there were three main causes of disease or dysfunction. Simply put trauma (Structural), toxins (Chemical), and autosuggestion (Emotional).

The Triangle of Health

Perfect health may be visualized by an equilateral triangle. When each side of the triangle, the Structural, the Chemical, and the Emotional, are all in balance, you have total health. The circle around the triangle is representative of your personal energy field.

When one or more of the sides of the triangle gets out of balance, health issues arise. Common Symptoms and disorders include:

  • Neck pain

  • Lower and Upper Back pain

  • Trauma from Car Accidents

  • Sports injuries, falls, strains and sprains

  • Migraines

  • Sleeping problems

  • Digestive Upset

  • Irritability

  • Hormonal Imbalance

Chiropractic brings all three elements back into balance and allows the body to heal.

Frequently asked questions

What is that cracking sound?

Yes, sometimes when you adjust a bone, there is a sound, sometimes there is not. The sound does not come from the bone at all. Nothing is breaking. The sound is a release of pressure from the fluids/glasses around the joint.

The same sound happens when you crack your knuckles(for any joint). However, when you do it repeatedly, you are creating a micro-trauma in the joint, potentially creating long-term damage. When you do that to your spine, you are doing the same thing. You are pushing a normal joint past its threshold of motion releasing pressure and creating the sound. You may not be correcting a problem, which is why the pressure and discomfort return after 20-25 minutes.

In a chiropractic adjustment, we put normal motion back into a joint that is compromised. The sound is not necessary for that to happen. Using very little force without any sound can restore proper joint motion. When you restore proper motion in the joint, nerve function is restored along with blood flow, lymphatic flow, and chemical flow.

Is it going to hurt?

Most of the time, chiropractic does not hurt. There can be a spasm of muscles that cause pain along with inflammation that may cause pain. When any of those areas are touched, they may be sensitive, but they soon release and normalize and the sensation of pain disappears.

Do I have to keep going back forever?

There are two ways you can look at treatments. One is pain relief and the other is creating optimal health. Pain relief typically implies a finite amount of time that it takes to heal a particular injury or insult to the nervous system. This could be anything from three treatments to two treatments a week for three months.

Often serious injuries like dislocated patella or a fall downstairs that results in chronic migraines may take 6 months to a year to resolve.

Once we fix the initial problem, we can move into creating and maintaining health. This can be once a month, once a quarter, or a couple of times a year.

Because our body is dynamic, which means it is in motion all the time and is constantly changing, I do believe that it’s important to get it looked at on a regular basis. This creates a system for health and healing that is much faster and thorough and may reduce the risk of injuries down the line.

Why do I call it a treatment instead of an adjustment?

The term adjustment usually relates to finding and correcting the bone's misalignment in the spinal column, called a subluxation. When needed, I will also apply adjustments to the cranium and extremities (i.e., your elbows and feet).

Not only do I adjust the spine, but I also take a holistic view by addressing multiple layers of issues that might be the root cause of the subluxation. This could be muscle imbalance, nutritional deficiency, organ stress, and/or trapped emotions.

All this combined creates a customized treatment that is suited for the individual’s complete healing.
